Hello! Happy 2024! And welcome back to Meal Planning Mom!
Clearly time got away from me and it has been longer between blog posts than I planned. The holidays will do that to you, won’t they? I do love a good holiday though and I’ll take any excuse to make our family’s food special, so I had a lot of fun trying out different Valentines Day breakfast recipes with the kids.
I made these recipes over the course of a few weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day to make the first half of February feel a little extra special. My husband and I also took turns leaving hearts on our kids’ bedroom doors each day with reasons why we love them. We started that tradition last year and they absolutely loved it, so we had to continue it this year. Things as small as paper hearts and heart breakfast items can really make Valentine’s Day feel fun and special for kids!
These are the heart-themed breakfasts we have been enjoying over the last few weeks!
Strawberry Cream Cheese Heart Danishes
These Strawberry Cream Cheese Heart Danishes were so adorable! The prep was quick and easy and it only required a handful of ingredients, which I appreciated. This is one of those recipes that looks fancy but takes minimal effort. I got several comments when I posted this picture on Instagram because the danishes look as good as they taste. If you’re on the hunt for a “fancy” but easy breakfast, definitely give this one a try.
Heart Pop Tarts
When I stumbled across this recipe for homemade Heart Pop Tarts, I knew immediately I wanted to make them. I happened to have pie crusts, strawberry jam, and a heart shaped cookie cutter on hand, which are all of the ingredients you need to make this recipe. And they came out tasting like legitimate pop tarts, I was pleasantly surprised! I let my kids put their own sprinkles on top, which was kind of a free for all, but I try to involve them in cooking and baking as much as I can. We all really enjoyed this breakfast, even my husband who is not much of a sweets guy.
(I put the sprinkles on top of these ones. Can you tell? Ha!)
Cinnamon Roll Hearts
Cinnamon rolls are always a fun treat in our house so when I saw this recipe for Cinnamon Roll Hearts on Pinterest, I knew I had to make them! This was the meal I made on actual Valentine’s Day and it was a perfect before-preschool breakfast (along with some bacon). The only change I made to this recipe was to mix the included icing with strawberry jam. It gave the icing a pink color without food coloring and added yummy strawberry flavor. We all devoured them and they weren’t any cinnamon rolls left after breakfast. I barely had time to take a picture before they were all gone!
I hope these recipes gave you some ideas for how to make Valentine’s Day fun for your kids. I’ve realized over the years that meals don’t have to be “fancy” or hard to be special and enjoyable. These are all very simple recipes with only a handful of ingredients that can easily be made in the mornings to start the day off right!
