Hello! Welcome back to Meal Planning Mom!
One of the things that continuously brings me great joy since becoming a mom is celebrating holidays with my kids. I absolutely love it! Kids make any holiday so much more fun, right? Right! Since I love food and cooking so much, I really enjoy making fun and special meals when a holiday rolls around.
In the spirit of Halloween, which was a few weeks ago, I thought I would share what I made for breakfast and dinner to make the day a little extra special for my kids.
*Note: My kids are in preschool two days a week and eat lunch at school on those days. Halloween happened to fall on a school day this year, so that’s why I only made breakfast and dinner for them.
Halloween Breakfast
I decided literally the night before Halloween to make a fun breakfast, so I browsed Pinterest for ideas with ingredients I already had in my pantry. Luckily I found an easy and simple recipe without any complicated ingredients. I followed this recipe from 40 Aprons for Easy Jack O Lantern Pancakes! They turned out so cute and were super easy to make. The recipe says to use pancake batter of your choice and my favorite pancake batter is “The Best Ever Fluffy Pancakes” in the griddle to move things along a little faster so I could cook multiple pumpkin pancakes at once. The griddle I have isn’t available anymore, but THIS one is very similar if you’re in the market for one.
My kids thought these pancakes were so fun and I did too!
(Sidenote: I am not a professional photographer, so please excuse my photos with bad lighting that I snapped really quickly while making food for hungry kids).
Halloween Dinner
Dinner, on the other hand, I had planned weeks in advance because I stumbled across these ravioli at Costco.
Aren’t they adorable? They just screamed easy Halloween dinner and I grabbed them as soon as I saw them. I made a simple “orange” pasta sauce using equal parts alfredo sauce and marinara sauce to go with the pasta. I served it on top of the ravioli, with steamed vegetables and homemade bread, and called it good!
This dinner was a hit with my husband and kids. It’s hard to go wrong with pasta! I believe Costco puts these raviolis out every year so if you missed them this year, keep an eye out for them next Halloween!
Halloween Candy Cookies
Last, but not least, I stumbled across this cookie recipe from The Baker Mama and I thought it was so genius: Leftover Halloween Candy Cookie Dough! You use leftover chocolate candy and make cookie dough that you can bake immediately or freeze to bake at a later time. I had to make this cookie dough as soon as I saw the recipe and it did not disappoint! We baked some of the cookies right away and we froze some for another time when everyone needs a little cookie pick-me-up.
Well, that’s it for the Halloween celebrations around here. It’s the middle of November which means now I have Thanksgiving on the brain! Stay tuned for a Thanksgiving leftovers meal plan coming soon!
In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed these easy ideas for a Halloween menu for kids. If you try them out, let me know what your family thinks!
