Happy Wednesday!
This week has been somewhat busy and somewhat relaxing. We have had doctors’ appointments every day this week so we’ve either been at the transplant clinic or hospital first thing in the morning. Our afternoons have been free though, so that’s been nice. I mentioned last week that I am not someone who can binge watch TV shows and I can get a little bored sitting around. Luckily, I have been finding plenty of things to do at home to keep myself entertained.
Like adult coloring books.
I’ve been doing more organizing. This time I tackled mine and Chris’ closets (we have his and hers closets). I even have a big bag of clothes and shoes to donate.
Lyssa has been super cuddly lately so I have been enjoying some extra snuggles from her.
Oh I’ve been working on my blog too. There are lots of fun things that I do in the background besides writing, such as designing my website and attempting to edit pictures. I am slowly figuring things out.
I also decided to finally hang up pictures in our workout/media room. If you remember from my house tour post, this room was pretty unfinished. Chris and I switched our home office and workout room a few months ago and we never hung the pictures back up on the wall. Oops… So that is something I decided to do while we’re spending so much time at home.
When we moved into our home and I was deciding how to decorate everything, it became clear that we had a ton of travel themed pictures and miscellaneous decor. I have always loved to travel and I have collected various pictures and decorations over the years. I also collect spoons and I get one (or two) from every place I visit! My friends and family know about my collection so they pick up spoons for me from places they visit too! I have a pretty large collection. I didn’t want our whole house to be travel themed so I decided the workout/media room would be the perfect place to hang all of our miscellaneous travel decor. Miscellaneous is the key word here because none of it really matches. What do you do with a bunch of mismatched pictures that you want to keep?
A gallery wall!
I’ve never attempted a gallery wall, so I had no clue what I was doing. I stood in the room for awhile and just kind of looked at the walls and looked at our pictures, trying to decide how to arrange everything.
I eventually decided that I wanted one big picture over the couch so that wall wouldn’t look too busy compared to the gallery wall I knew I was going to create. I also decided to hang my spoon collection above the TV.
With all of that figured out, I knew that the remaining pictures and decor would be placed on the big wall in the room to create a gallery wall. I started laying everything out on the floor and arranging and rearranging until I was happy with how it looked.
Next came the hard part… Hanging everything. I am not the most handy person so Chris usually hangs everything in our house. He can’t strain himself or lift anything over 10 pounds right now, so it was up to me to hang all the decor. And I’m proud to say that I was successful! It turns out that anyone who can hammer a nail can hang pictures on a wall. I used a combination of nails and gorilla hooks, which are these cool hooks we recently found out about.
We are both super happy with how the room, especially the gallery wall, turned out!
BEFORE
AFTER
There are a few more things I’m going to be on the lookout for to add to the gallery wall, but I’m really happy with how it looks so far!
I got our “It’s a Beautiful World” scratch off map on Jane.com. It is so cool, you scratch off the places you’ve been and they turn a different color. I decided that would be perfect to be in the center of the gallery wall because it will be an amazing way to highlight the places Chris and I have traveled together. We’ve already scratched off a few places! You can see it better in this picture.
I definitely feel that this has been a productive week so far and we’re only halfway through! What other tasks will I do to keep myself busy? I’ll keep you guys posted!
Any ideas for how I can keep myself entertained while we’re quarantined at home?
