Happy Monday!
This weekend went by too fast like they always do. I feel like I blinked and it’s Monday again.
We had a great weekend though! We had some friends in town that stopped by to see us and we also had visits from family and friends that live in the area. It was nice to catch up with them! Even though we are quarantined at home, Chris is allowed to have short visits with adults (no one under 12) that are 100% healthy so we took advantage of that over the weekend.
Since Chris is only allowed short visits, we still had plenty of downtime over the weekend. On a whim, I decided to make a fall wreath. We don’t have any fall decorations in our house (maybe I should buy some?) and I thought making a wreath would be a good use of my time on Saturday. I browsed around Pinterest for ideas and found THIS one. I liked the general idea but I wanted to change it up a bit and also add a “hey y’all” sign I bought months ago and never used. I took that idea and ran with it.
Michael’s is always a good place to buy craft supplies, so that’s where I headed. And wouldn’t you know, they were having a Doorbuster sale on artificial floral bouquets for one day only! I seriously lucked out because that sale made this project super affordable. I wandered through the floral department until I found flowers that matched the vision in my head. I also picked up a wreath form and paint for my “hey y’all” sign, since I bought it unfinished.
All in all, the supplies for this project cost me $17 and that includes the $1 bone shaped cookie cutter I got. Remember my pumpkin dog treat post? (You can check it out HERE). I have been on the lookout for a bone cookie cutter since then, so I couldn’t pass it up!
As soon as I got home, I started working on my wreath. I was just a little excited!
Here is a list of supplies I used:
- Wreath form
- Orange spice paint
- Unfinished “hey y’all” sign (similar one HERE)
- Orange and yellow artificial flowers
- Phillips-head screw driver
The first thing I did was paint the “hey y’all” sign. I bought it on Jane.com several months ago and never used it. I had intended to but it was one of those things I never got around to, so it was perfect for this wreath project. I already had paint brushes and it only took me a few minutes to paint this the “Orange Spice” color I had picked out.
After that I had to secure the flowers to the wreath form. The heads of the flowers easily came off the stems so I pulled those off and used a miniature Phillips-head screw driver to make a small hole in the wreath form. I pushed the flower head into that hole and it stayed in place perfectly. I repeated this with alternating colors until I had lined the whole wreath.
The last step was to add my painted “hey y’all” sign. I decided to do this with a hot glue gun and I glued the sign to the flower petals themselves because I had heard styrofoam could melt. I didn’t want to take any chances on my masterpiece! After I let the hot glue dry, my wreath was done!
This project took about 15 minutes from start to finish. It was super quick and I think the wreath turned out great! I am really happy with how it looks! I love the orange and yellow colors for fall and I think it looks great on our front door!
It turns out I only needed 2 floral bouquets to make this wreath and I had bought 5, so I had several flowers leftover. I decided to put them in a glass vase and let them hang out on our breakfast table for a little while.
Don’t they add some extra fall flair?
If you’re looking for a quick, easy, and inexpensive fall craft project, definitely give this a try! If you do, be sure to leave a comment or send me a picture, I would love to see how it turns out!
