Hello and welcome to my last pregnancy update with baby #3! That is so hard to believe. And actually, as I type this, baby boy is already here! We did not make it all the way through my third trimester and he needed to be born early. You can find out why by reading my recap below.

And now, onto my third trimester recap. Enjoy!
29 Weeks: I had an appointment with my MFM this week and baby boy looked good! He was moving and practicing breathing and his fluid and dopplers looked good.
30 Weeks: My growth scan this week did not go as well as we had hoped. Baby boy weighs 2 pounds, 5 ounces and he only gained a few ounces since my last measurement scan 3 weeks ago. This puts him below 3% which means more monitoring and an earlier delivery. He is still doing ok and has enough fluid and nutrients, but his decrease in growth is concerning. I’ve been moved to ultrasounds twice a week and told to expect a 37 week delivery.
This was also the week of Easter. We took the girls to a local family farm and they had a blast! They were able to participate in an Easter egg hunt, see lots of animals, and play to their heart’s content. They loved it!
31 Weeks: When I went to my OB this week he moved up my c-section date, so we know for sure we’re having a May baby instead of a June baby. It’s starting to get real!
I was also in a scary car accident this week that totaled my car. Thankfully me and baby are ok (minus some bumps, bruises and a lot of soreness). But I’m just so thankful baby boy is ok! It could have been worse.
32 Weeks: This was the week the girls turned 2! I can’t believe they are already two years old, it has gone way too fast. In my next post, I am going to recap their birthday and post an update on how they’re doing, so stay tuned for that!
Our baby sprinkle was this weekend too and it was so fun to celebrate baby boy with friends and family.
33 Weeks: We took family maternity pictures this week and they turned out so cute. Stephanie Renee Photography takes our photos and we always love how they turn out!
34 Weeks: I had another measurement appointment with my MFM and baby boy is weighing in at 3 pounds, 2 oz, which is less than 3%. My MFM was concerned about his size and fluid level. His fluid is decreasing and on the low end of normal. She said the latest baby will be delivered is 37 weeks but there’s a possibility he will be delivered before then if he shows any signs of distress. She said to pack bags, prepare for delivery at any time, and also prepare for a NICU stay.
35 Weeks: A few days later when I was exactly 35 week pregnant, I had an appointment with my OB. They did an ultrasound and baby boy’s fluid level had decreased. It was on the borderline low end of normal. My OB said he wanted to admit me to the hospital for 24 hours so I could be given steroid injections that would help baby’s lungs to mature. My OB said it was unlikely I would make it to my c-section date in two weeks and we needed to give baby an extra boost since he’d be born early. The plan was to admit me for 24 hours, I would get 2 rounds of steroid shots, and I would be discharged home. We’d closely monitor baby and it was likely he would be born in the next week.
The next day was Saturday and my doctor’s partner was on call over the weekend. She wanted to do one more ultrasound to check baby boy’s fluid before releasing me home. At that ultrasound we saw that his fluid had decreased by half of what it was the previous day. So not only was his fluid out of the normal range and too low for comfort, we were seeing a clear trend of fluid decreasing. She said that she really felt it was time to deliver him and advised he be born first thing the next morning. It was not the news I wanted to hear and I was really hoping to make it a little farther in my pregnancy, but it was clear he was going to be safer out than in, and all I wanted was my baby boy to be here safe and sound. We made the decision to have a c-section at 8AM the next morning on May 9, 2021, which was Mother’s Day. I guess he wanted to meet his mama!
Stay tuned for baby boy’s birth story. That will be coming next week!
