Happy Wednesday!
If you read my About Me page you would know that Chris and I met while we were both living in California. I went into more detail in “The Story of Us” and shared that we moved in together after a year of dating. We moved into an apartment for a few months then rented a 1 1/2 bedroom townhouse where we lived for four years until we moved to Texas last spring.
Before we moved, Chris and I had been dreaming of buying a home for a long time. It’s something that wasn’t possible for us when we lived in California so our goal was to buy a house right away when we moved to Texas. We had been saving for awhile and really hoped we could make it happen. We were so proud of ourselves (and still are!) when we closed on our 4 bedroom home less than 3 months after making the big cross-country move from California to Texas. We really did it! We bought a house!
That was over a year ago and I’ve been promising family and friends pictures of our home since then. Oops… Time kind of got away from me. Not that we haven’t had a crazy year… And also, I kept thinking to myself “After we finish a few more projects, I’ll post pictures.” But I’ve come to realize that there is always something to be done when you own a house. There are always projects to do and things you want to change. So I decided there is no time like the present to finally give you a tour of our home! As we complete projects and make changes, I’ll post updated pictures.
Without further ado…
Our home!
We love the front of our house! We think it has so much curb appeal. We added the solar screens last September and we completely re-did all of the front landscaping in February.
Entry Way
When you walk into our house, there is a small entry way leading into the living room. To the right of the entry way is a space we have turned into a game room and to the right of that is our dining room.
Game Room
When Chris and I were house hunting he talked about how nice it would be to have a game room with a pool table. I had the typical “yeah yeah” response, not thinking we would actually find a home with space for that. But surprise, we did! And bonus—I found this pool table on Facebook for $50! Yup, you read that right. $50. It’s one of my best deals ever.
P.S. The pool sticks and balls spell out I <3 U!
Dining Room
To the right of the game room is our dining room. I found the dining room table on Craigslist a few weeks after we moved and it fits in the room perfectly.
I really wanted to add a bar to the dining room and I spent months searching Craigslist, Facebook, and OfferUp for the perfect piece of furniture. I finally found an amazing bar and I am in love with it! It’s the perfect place to store wine, various alcohols, and all of our glassware.
Laundry Room
To the right of the dining room is our laundry room. Nothing special about this space, it’s your typical laundry room really. Our washer and dryer (with pedestals) were another Craigslist find! On our to-do list at some point is to adjust the cabinet so we can fit the pedestal under the washer. It just barely didn’t fit!
Kitchen
To the left of the dining room is our kitchen. This is probably my favorite room in the house! It was so important to me to have a big kitchen since I love to cook and bake and I was really hoping for an island too. We got both of those things in our kitchen and I love it so much! It has a ton of storage and plenty of room for me to prep and cook meals.
There is also a breakfast nook next to a big window, which is really nice.
Living Room
We love the open concept of our house because the living room and kitchen are pretty much one big space. We splurged on our giant sectional when we moved into our house and it is amazing. It’s huge and super comfortable and there is plenty of room for multiple people (and multiple dogs). We love it!
Master Bedroom
Our master bedroom is off the right side of the living room. It’s a big room with his and hers closets and plenty of room for the King bed we plan to upgrade to. One day!
Master Bathroom
We love our master bathroom. It has a separate shower and tub and it also has his and hers vanities! Bet you can’t guess who’s vanity is whos 😉
Spare Bedroom Hallway
The three spare bedrooms are off the left side of the living room, which is perfect. We like that our master bedroom is separate from the other bedrooms in the house
Guest Bedroom
It’s your typical guest bedroom. Plenty of space for company.
Office
I wrote about our office makeover HERE. We love this room since its makeover. There is plenty of room for both of our desks and it feels like it just makes sense now.
Workout Room/Media Room
This is the most unfinished room in the house. We need to hang pictures on the wall and we are going to set up the play station in there too. For now, it’s mostly a workout room but our vision is for it to be a combination workout room and media room.
Guest Bathroom
We love having two bathrooms. We only had one bathroom in our townhouse in California and that was a problem on more than one occasion… Glad those days are over!
Backyard
Off the kitchen/breakfast nook area is our backyard. We extended the patio in March and that gave us a ton of extra space and room for a table and chairs. We have a lot of ideas for our patio area, so stay tuned for updates in the future! We also planted the trees in the backyard last spring and we can’t wait to watch them grow over the years. There is plenty of room for the dogs to run around (and they do all the time) so it is a perfect size for us.
Well, that concludes our house tour! I hope this satisfies all of the people that have been asking me for pictures. I’m sorry it took so long, but better late than never, right?
Do you have any suggestions for house projects we should add to our to-do list? We have several on there already, but we would love suggestions!
