Hello Blog World.
I’ve been a little MIA the past week. I wish I had a good excuse and I could tell you we were on vacation or something, but that’s not the case. I just wasn’t feeling very inspired last week. Writing has always been therapeutic for me and it’s one of the reasons I started this blog in the first place. But there are times when I have trouble finding words for what I want to say and writing is the last thing I want to do. Last week was one of those times.
But the good news is I’m back to the blog! In the last week while I was MIA and wrapped up in my thoughts, I was spending some time thinking about this blog and what I really want my focus to be. I want this blog to be a reflection of Chris and I’s life together and all of the things that I love. That includes food, both eating it and cooking it. Our furbabies, of course, because Chris and I love them so much. We have a few house projects we are planning to work on soon that I’m very excited about and I plan to share them here. So these are the topics you can expect to read about as I move forward in writing this blog.
In the spirit of that, today’s blog post topic is What We’ve Been Up To Wednesday! I thought I’d give you a run down of some of the things that been going on with us.
I got a Passion Planner! Have you heard of them? My friend Kaitlyn told me about them and I had to have one. Even though 2017 is more than halfway over, I still decided I needed a passion planner for the year. You write down your goals for various time frames such as three months, one year, three years, etc. It’s awesome! It’s such a great way to map out your personal and professional goals. It really helped me narrow down what I want to focus on in this time in my life.
DFW Restaurant Week was happening during August. It’s more like a month than a week, but I look forward to it every year. It’s a great excuse to try out new restaurants (which is something I really like doing) and bonus: it’s for a good cause. Proceeds are donated to the North Texas Food Bank. If you participate in Restaurant Week, there is a prix fixe 3-4 course menu (depending on the restaurant you go to). Chris and I decided to try out a place called Wildflower Patio and Grill. They had live music so we sat out on the patio and ate. We got all kinds of yummy food. For our first course I got sliders and Chris got spinach and artichoke dip. We chose an avocado bomb (avocado Cobb salad) and Southwestern Cobb salad for our second course. For the main meal, Chris got salmon and I got shrimp skewers. The shrimp was delicious! Overall, we had a good time and tried some new, yummy food. I’m not sure we will rush back to Wildflower but we had a nice time while we were there.
Saturday I went to brunch with some of my best friends to celebrate our friend Amanda’s birthday! (Nope, not me, my birthday is in January. There are two Amandas in our group!) We had a really good time catching up just us girls and I always love Lazy Dog brunch, which is where we went. I used to frequent Lazy Dog when Chris and I lived in California so I’m very happy there are some locations here in Dallas. I’ve tried every brunch item on their menu, or I thought I had at least, but surprise, there’s been a new addition since the last time I had brunch there! It’s called the Brunch Burger and it was delicious. It’s hard to go wrong with any meal that includes good food, mimosas, and your best friends.
Another fun that happened over the weekend was the Game of Thrones season finale! Are there any Game of Thrones fans reading this? Chris and I just started watching Game of Thrones last year. He wasn’t feeling very well while he went through chemo so we spent a lot of time at home watching TV and we needed a show to watch. I think we watched all six seasons in about six weeks and we’ve been counting down to season seven since then. Don’t worry, I won’t include any spoilers, but Chris and I just kind of sat on the couch in silence when the episode was over and the credits rolled. How long do we have to wait for the next season? I read somewhere 2019, please say it isn’t so!
I can’t end this blog without mentioning the devastation that is happening a few hours south of us with Hurricane Harvey. Chris and I have friends and family in Houston and we have been checking in with them and monitoring the news closely. It is so heart breaking. It’s hard to believe that while we have had sunny days here in Dallas, a mere four hours down the road is a total flood land and people are losing their homes and everything they own. Our thoughts are with you Houston and Southeast Texas and everyone affected by Hurricane Harvey <3
All things considered, life has been pretty good for us lately and we have a lot to be thankful for. We also have a lot to look forward to and I will be updating the blog with all of the happenings ahead!
