I am so glad today is Friday! Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy when every Friday rolls around, but I am especially happy this week is coming to an end. I’ve had several misadventures that I can [mostly] laugh at but I am ready to put them behind me.
The week technically starts on Sunday right? If you’re following an Excel week at least and since I live in Excel at work, I’m going to go with the theory that my week started on Sunday. So, on Sunday I was mowing our yard (yes, girls can mow too!) and I was almost done mowing the front. I just had one small area left by the mailbox. And do you know what I ran into? Fire ants. Those things will sneak up on you if you’re not careful. Usually I’m pretty observant, or I like to think I am, but they came out of nowhere. I had no idea I’d mowed over an ant pile and was standing in it until the ants started biting me! And they aren’t called fire ants for no reason, those bites burn. Luckily we don’t have any neighbors across the street or they would have seen a really odd dance going on in our driveway as I ripped off my shoes and socks, smacked the ants that were on my feet and ankles, and ran to the water spout. The water took the burn away enough and I was able to finish mowing the front and back yard. I did get my revenge though. We keep Andro (ant killer) on hand and you better believe I introduced it to the fire ants that had taken up residency in our front yard. They’re gone now.
Well after Sunday comes Monday, and in typical Monday morning fashion, I snoozed my alarm a few times and ended up running around in the morning getting ready for work. I was at the point where I was all dressed, hair done, makeup done, lunch packed and I was ready to go out the door. I called our dogs to say goodbye to them (like I do every morning, yes I am that dog mom) and Levi came running in from outside where he was eating, let’s call it dirt. So he comes running in with this “dirt” all over his mouth and before I could stop him, he had rubbed it all over my jeans. His way of saying goodbye I’m sure. Since I couldn’t go to work like that, I changed into new jeans as fast as I could and ran out the door.
I am known to be a bit of a klutz but lately I had been on a pretty good streak of not having any klutzy moments. Well that streak ended as soon as I got to work Monday. I got out of my car and had made it about three steps in the parking lot when I slipped on some water and before I could register what was happening, I had fallen on all fours in the cement parking lot and landed in a mud puddle. I can’t even tell you how ungraceful it was. I immediately got up and assessed the “damage”. I’m pretty sure this is what went through my head: “I twisted my ankle but no major issue there. Landed on my knee, that hurt, but it seems to be ok. I have mud all over my jeans and I’m 45 minutes from home, guess I’m going into the building as-is.” So I did. I went inside, went straight to the bathroom and attempted to clean myself up, then went about my day as usual. But Monday night when I got home, I realized my knee was in worse shape than I initially thought…
And don’t you know, my “good” luck continued on Tuesday. I got home early from work (woo hoo!) and I was using my extra time to play with the dogs of course. I’m sure that goes without saying. Well, Levi got a little too excited and swatted me across the eye! As soon as he did it, I knew it was going to leave a mark. And it did. Two in fact. I was mad at Levi for about half a second until he smiled his goofy smile at me and then I melted and forgave him.
How can you be mad at that face? So, since Tuesday I’ve been sporting two scratches underneath my eye. I was telling one of my friends about all of my misadventures this week and she said I should call out of work injured. Can that be a thing? Instead of a sick day, can I take an “injury” day so I don’t have to be seen at the office and answer the question of “what happened to you?” 500 times?
Luckily my rotten streak seems to have ended (knock on wood) because I haven’t had any more incidents since Tuesday. Going into Friday I am feeling optimistic that my bad luck is gone and I will be sailing into the weekend on the mend from all of my injuries this week. Hopefully the black cloud that has been following me around found someone else to hover over. If that person happens to be you, I’m sorry!
