Hello!
This past Sunday marked 2 years since Chris and I bought our home! We love our house and are so proud of it! But we do have a list of projects we hope to complete over time, like any homeowner. In fact, one of my goals for 2018 was to work on a few of those projects and cross them off our to-do list. The only problem? House projects cost money. Womp womp.
Chris and I decided last month that we are going to budget about $100 every month toward some of the smaller projects on our list. If you’ve been reading my blog, you know how important our finances are to us and taking into account any upcoming projects (big or small) is crucial to our budgeting success. We are hoping to get several small projects crossed off the list before the end of the year!
Our guest bathroom has been bothering me since we moved into our house. Chris and I lived in California before we moved to Texas and bought our home. We had a 1.5 bedroom townhouse out there, so moving into our 4 bedroom home was quite an adjustment. In the best way! We had to buy so much furniture and we both agreed to use some of our furniture and decor from our townhouse until we could replace them. So our old towels, rugs, and shower curtain ended up in the guest bathroom.
It worked for awhile. It was one less thing for us to buy when we first moved in and already had so many other expenses. But over the last 2 years, I have gotten so tired of seeing purple every time I walked into our guest bathroom. A few weeks ago I decided the time had come to give it a little facelift.
I didn’t want to do anything drastic, but I really wanted to lighten the room up. It’s in the center of the house, so there are no windows and it can get pretty dark in there. We had some blue and gray rugs and towels that I got at my bridal shower a few years ago and I figured our guest bathroom would be the perfect place for them. Blue is my favorite color and gray is nice and neutral, so I decided to carry on that theme when I searched for a shower curtain. I browsed the internet for awhile and went back and forth several times before finally deciding on one at Bed Bath and Beyond.
I ordered the shower curtain online and Chris and I went down to the store a few hours later to pick it up. Within 10 minutes of getting home, this “project” was complete! We already had the rugs and towels, so those just needed to be placed in the guest bathroom. Putting up the shower curtain took all of 1 minute. And tada – we were done!
Doesn’t it look so much better? I love our guest bathroom makeover! It feels so much brighter and calmer in there. Plus, this was about a $25 dollar “project” so we came in way under budget, which always makes me happy. Onto the next project!

Isn’t it great how much a simple change can transform a room? My husband and I have been working to do the same with our place. We tackle little things at a time and they all add up to a great result. I like how you changed to a lighter shower curtain and towels. It really helped make the room feel larger and brighter!
