Happy Wednesday!
We’re halfway through the week, woo hoo! Although technically today is only my second day of work for the week since Monday was Labor Day. Gotta love those long holiday weekends. Chris and I had a nice weekend together. We hung out with friends and family and we also crossed a project off of our to-do list and re-did our home office. It was a good mix of productive and relaxing!
Re-doing our home office has been on our to-do list for awhile. We weren’t happy with the mismatched furniture (we still had our old desks from when we moved in together) and we weren’t thrilled with how things were laid out.
We’ve been looking at new desks for awhile and going back and forth on which ones to get, but we couldn’t decide. Do we get corner desks? Matching desks? Hutch desks? So many decisions. Then a few weeks ago, Chris had a great idea. He suggested switching two of our spare bedrooms: the home office and the workout room. If we did that, it would give us more layout options, because of the positioning of windows and doors. I thought about it and agreed that it was a great idea, so we started making plans for our home office makeover.
With the new room in mind, we finally picked out these desks and bought two of them. We decided to go with matching hutch desks so the room would be cohesive and there would be plenty of storage. They arrived last week which is when we decided this would be the perfect Labor Day weekend project!
Our first step was to build the desks. It wasn’t hard, it was just time consuming. We broke it up over a few evenings last week and by Friday both desks were complete.
Saturday we set to work moving furniture. We had to move everything out of the room that was previously our workout room and when the room was empty, we moved our new desks into position. We decided to keep our old bookshelves for now (we will upgrade them later down the road) and moved those into the new office as well. After that it was a matter of moving computers and electronics to the new desks and breaking down our old desks. It sounds simple and it was, but it did take a few hours to move everything around. All that we have left is to hang everything back on the wall. But that will be a project for another day.
All in all, Chris and I love our new home office! It’s a huge improvement from our previous space. The new office is in a room in the front of the house with a bigger window, so there’s more natural light. We love the new layout and we each have plenty of space. We also love our desks! If you are looking for a new desk, I highly recommend the ones we got. They are sturdy and have a ton of storage. They look good too!
Oh and in case you were wondering, Lyssa and Levi are happy with the new space too because we kept their dog bed. Priorities!
Another successful house project in the books! Onto the next one!
