Before I dive into blogging about our life and what we are up to, I figured a little background history on me and Chris might be in order. To be honest, I’m not sure that even our family and friends know our whole “story” (I may have fibbed to a few people on how we met, oops) so some of this might be news to them as well.
In the fall of 2010 I decided I was ready to get back into the dating game. Problem was, I had recently moved to California, which was 1200 miles away from most of the people I knew and there was no one to play my wing-woman or set me up with someone they knew. So I turned to Match.com. In December I got a message from someone with a username of “CaptainMorgan”. His message piqued my interest and I wrote back almost immediately. We messaged for a week or two before I gave him my phone number and I was shocked when he actually called me and asked me out on a date. On January 11, 2011 I showed up 15 minutes late (oops) to JT Schmidts and met “CaptainMorgan”, officially known as Chris. We clicked right away and the rest is history!
Ha, kidding. I did say I was going to give you the full background story, didn’t I?
About a year after we met, Chris and I moved in together and six months after that we adopted a puppy. We rocked along the 3 of us for several months, just enjoying life together. In January 2013, Chris started a new job that was 2 ½ hours away from where we lived. The plan was for him to stay in the city he worked in during the week and come home on weekends. We did that for over 3 years. It wasn’t ideal, but we sure learned a lot during that time and it really strengthened and solidified our relationship. We both knew that this was the real deal and we were ready to move forward. Although, let’s be honest, I had been ready for awhile. At that point we had been dating for several years, but the timing to take the next step just hadn’t been right.
On October 3, 2015 Chris took me out to dinner at JT Schmidts, the place we had our first date almost 5 years earlier. After that we went down to Newport Beach and walked down the pier and reminisced about our relationship and our life together. Chris subtly navigated us close to the bench where we had shared our first kiss and got down on one knee and proposed. It was a perfect moment and I remember it like it was yesterday. After I officially said “Yes!” we celebrated by getting gelato at our favorite place in Newport, which is what we did on our second date. A perfect trip down memory lane that was topped off by an engagement!
We got married 8 months later on May 20, 2016!
[…] 30 a few weeks ago and I can’t believe it! I remember when we first met (read our story here) 30 seemed like light years away. But somehow time has passed and here we are! Since 30 is such a […]
