Happy Tuesday!
Now that we are a few weeks into the new year, I decided to share my goals for 2018. I like to use New Years as a time to evaluate where I’m at, where I want to be, and set realistic goals for myself for the upcoming year.
I’m not going to lie, 2017 was a rough year for me. I started the year in a somewhat positive mindset, but by summer I was struggling. I was comparing myself to everyone around me and I just felt like I was failing. Going into 2018, I do not want to feel that way this year. There are a lot of things out of my control and I know this year will have its own obstacles, but I am determined to approach them with a positive attitude. Keeping that in mind, I set some goals for myself so that 2018 will be a great year for me and my family!
Five Goals for 2018
1) Keep a daily gratitude journal.
I got this idea from Mix & Match Mama and I thought it was awesome. I bought THIS gratitude journal a week before New Years with the goal of writing in it every day of 2018. And guess what? So far I have! At the end of the day (or sometimes early the next morning) I take some time to jot down things that made me happy and grateful that day. And I have to say, it is really helping me to keep things in perspective. By writing in my gratitude journal every day, I am constantly staying focused on the positive things in my life. If you are struggling with being positive, definitely give this a try. It has been amazing for me!
2) Continue on my fitness journey.
Another thing I didn’t do so great with in 2017 was focusing on myself and my health. I restarted my fitness journey at the end of the year in November and I am determined to continue my journey throughout 2018. Working out and eating clean not only helps me physically, it also helps me mentally. Feeling good about myself and my body helps me to feel good about life and approach it with a positive mindset. If you’ve been reading my blog, you have heard me mention Beachbody and how much I love their programs. I am so excited because a new program, called 80 Day Obsession, launched this week and it is the perfect time for me to throw myself into a new fitness program and meal plan! It’s going to be challenging and I will be waking up at 4:30 AM to make it work, but I am determined. I want to feel good about my body and my health in 2018 and this will help me get there.
3) Take vacations.
Chris and I have not taken a vacation since our honeymoon in May 2016. That was not intentional, but life as we knew it came to a stand still when we found out Chris was in kidney failure and needed a kidney transplant. We are so fortunate that his brother Justin donated a kidney to him in September and gave him the gift of a “normal” life. Now that Chris has a working kidney and is getting healthier by the day, we are looking forward to the future and we have several trips planned for 2018! We booked a bucket list trip for our 2 year anniversary that we are super excited about. Any guesses where we’re going? Hint: It’s on my travel bucket list. We also have a family cruise planned for the fall and we are hoping to take a few weekend trips here and there throughout the year. 2018 is going to be the year of exploring!
4) Explore Dallas.
Speaking of exploring, in 2018 I want to cross as many things as I can off our Dallas Bucket List. I started this list several months ago and sadly we did not check out anything on the list in 2017. But we started 2018 off right and have already explored a new place in Dallas. Chris surprised me by taking me to Reunion Tower for dinner on my 30th birthday and it was amazing! We are going to continue that trend throughout the year and explore some of the fun things Dallas has to offer! I also have a “Food and Drinks” bucket list I’m working on, so I will post that at some point in the future.
5) Complete More House Projects
Chris and I bought our first home a year and a half ago and we love it! It is perfect for us. But like any house, there are things we want to change and I have a growing list of projects we want to complete over time. We have already done a few things this year and we are hoping to check some more projects off the list as the year goes on, maybe even one of the bigger projects like a sprinkler system. We spend so much time at home that we really want it to be a house that feels 100% like us. More house posts will be coming this year if we keep up with this goal!
Well, those are my goals for 2018! What do y’all think? I know we are only two weeks into the new year, but so far I am feeling really good about them. I think that if I stay focused throughout the year, I will set myself up to have a great 2018 no matter what is waiting around the corner.

One of my goals this year is also to travel. I have never been on a plane and haven’t seen anywhere in the US west of Pennsylvania. Hopefully both of our goals will be meet this year.

That is a great goal! I hope you are able to travel this year!
