Happy Thursday!
I am still coming back to reality after our Alaskan cruise. It’s hard adjusting to life after vacation, isn’t it? I am loving these vacation recaps though and I will be continuing with them today! If you missed my previous posts you can read them here:
What To Do During An Alaskan Cruise Stop In Skagway
The morning after our ship left Skagway, we sailed through Glacier Bay National Park and it was beautiful! This may have been our favorite day of the trip. How often do you get to see glaciers up close? We soaked it all in!
Several park rangers came onto our ship and narrated throughout the day. It was so interesting to hear what landscapes and glaciers we were seeing, as well as a few historical and cultural stories. Chris and I chose to take it all in from our room. We turned on the TV so we could hear their commentary, ordered hot chocolate, and sat on our balcony and enjoyed the scenery. It was perfect!
We sailed through Glacier Bay for about an hour…
And then came upon our first glacier: The Margerie Glacier! It was beautiful. We were close enough to hear and see the ice calving (falling off) and it was so cool. Pictures are deceiving because this glacier (including the portion underwater) is as tall as the Statue of Liberty.
A seagull even checked it out with us.
We also saw the Great Pacific Glacier. While it doesn’t look like much these days, apparently it used to be quite a sight.
We continued sailing through Glacier Bay and I truly think it was the most stunning place I have ever been.
Lastly, we headed to the Johns Hopkins Inlet and Glacier. This was absolutely breath taking. We couldn’t get as close to this glacier as we got to the Margerie Glacier because it is protected due to the seals that live there. But wow, the view sure was beautiful.
We saw seals laying on icebergs and otters floating in the water with their babies. It was adorable!
Chris and I were sad when our time in Glacier Bay came to an end. It was an amazing day and we truly soaked in every second.
That night we enjoyed a Chef’s Table dinner onboard the ship and it was the perfect end to the day!
Have you been on an Alaskan Cruise? Did you sail through Glacier Bay?
